A Projeto CAPA volunteer feeding wild capybaras by the Pinheiros River in São Paulo

Projeto CAPA

São Paulo, Brazil

Projeto CAPA watches over the wild capybaras of São Paulo’s Pinheiros River, freeing them from trash and keeping them safe. The fences they installed cut road deaths from 15 in 2023 to 1 in 2026.

How we help real animals
Description

Teddy bears are named after US President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, thanks to a 1902 hunting story that made the papers. These two dressed up for the holidays together. Meet the Christmas Teddy Bear Couple.

  • Real size — each bear is about 10 in (26 cm) tall.
  • Two bears, one set — soft tan teddies with round ears, a lighter muzzle and little black eyes, dressed as a matching holiday pair.
  • Two looks — Red Pair (he wears a Santa hat and a plaid bow; she wears a red hooded cape with white trim over a tartan dress) or Green Pair (he wears a tartan pompom beanie and a green outfit with a white snowflake; she wears a green tartan dress with a lace collar and a bow).
  • Easy gift — a sweet couples gift, or a pair to split with your best friend.

What you get
Two teddy bears in the Christmas outfits you choose, about 10 in (26 cm) each.

Care
Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Let it air dry.

Meet Projeto CAPA

Along São Paulo’s Pinheiros River, Projeto CAPA looks after the capybaras who live right beside one of the city’s busiest roads. With their partner Belgo, they put up a protective fence along the riverbank, and it is working.
